For the first time, a Bruneian citizen has participated in the Overseas Training Programme in the field of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas since it first began in 1989.
A staff of PetroleumBRUNEI, Siti Hafsah has returned to Brunei after completing her training during her ten-week stay in Japan. The training was organized by the Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC).
Siti Hafsah has gained knowledge of techniques in seismic exploration, structural and statigraphic interpretation and techniques of remote sensing data (optical sensor/radar) analysis in solving geological problems using 3D software.
In Japan, she also had the chance to experience traditional Japanese culture during visits to places such as Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Hiroshima.
She attended a Japanese language course and participated in the after-class discussions on world energy issues with staff of JOGMEC.
Participants who had successfully completed the course were awarded a certificate at the closing ceremony on June 22.
Siti Hafsah was selected to give an address during the closing ceremony, representing the other trainees from 15 countries.
She commented that the programme had been of great significance and that it was especially useful in deepening her knowledge and understanding of oil exploration.
She pointed out that the number of engineers in this field is currently insufficient in Brunei.
With the knowledge that she has gained from the programme, she highlighted that she has plans to pass on the value of the experiences she had during her time in Japan to the younger generation in Brunei. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
